Due to encrypted pharmacy and prescriber identifiers in the PDE data, researchers may require additional information related to the dispensing pharmacy and the prescriber. This presentation reviews the Pharmacy and the Prescriber Characteristics files that are available to link to the PDE data. A brief overview of the sources of the data in each file and key variables in each file are discussed.

This presentation reviews the four sub-files contained in the Plan Characteristics file. The sub-files discussed include the 1) Plan Benefit Base file; 2) the Premium file; 3) the Cost Sharing Tier file; and 4) the Service Area file. Usefulness of specific variables included in each file is reviewed.

This presentation reviews the "cost" variables found in the Part D Event data. Researchers can determine the "point of sale" cost to the beneficiary. Other variables reviewed in this presentation include the gross drug cost, the patient pay amount, the low income subsidy amount, the other true out-of-pocket amount, patient liability reduction amount, and the covered and non-covered plan paid amounts.
